Push Tomorrows Boundaries By Researching Yesterdays

This brief was to create a brochure that challenged designers to push the boundaries of design. We also had to create a design that functioned as a brochure on one side and a poster on the other. I approached this project by trying to push the boundaries myself, by cutting out some letters of the main voice within the poster. If you unscramble the cut out letters it says ‘PROGRESS’, to reiterate the point and also generate a mind game within the design. I also reshaped the format of the brochure / poster idea to the shape of an envelope when folded, to give it a look of importance.

Subjective View

I created this book in response to a brief dealing with a sequence based on an experience of a place. I designed it as a reflection of the key questions women ask themselves when dealing with a relationship breakup. I set it in a scene of nature as this is where I go to think. When you allow yourself time to think or you are upset, you tend to look down, and so the images work as a series of nature carpets. The book holds a series of views relating to the questions that are ordered in a sequence progressing from heated emotions to seriousness to a final decision. I am proud of the end product ‘Subjective View’.

The Crying of Lot 49

The idea of this was to create another book cover for ‘The crying of lot 49’. I included this in my portfolio because this was the project that taught me how research, exploration and experimentation can produce a great end product. This brief pushed me out of my preferred style and into exploring a range of design options. I am happy with the cut and paste style of the book cover I constructed and it strongly represents the story within the novel.

CHANGEable

This was a brief to construct a publication that pushed the boundaries. So I created a book of words that inspired social and ethical change, for a wide audience.

I chose to deal with photography and nature to portray an ecological style within my design, reinforced by an obviously handmade cover and binding.
