Packaging Futures

Packaging futures was a branding and promotion project in which I was given conference details and set out to produce a brand that expressed its goal; the introduction of sustainable materials in the future of packaging. I designed the promotional matter to be distributed at the conference, reworking it a number of times to build stronger brand awareness within the visuals of each piece. This project educated me on the strength of a brand and how to convey the identity of that brand throughout all the materials in association with the conference.

Mercatini

Mercatini Interior Design and Furnishings contracted me through Centro Design, where I worked with Frans Huysman, to create posters for the interior of the store advertising the relationship Mercatini had with its most renowned international brands.

The company sells contemporary style, Italian furniture, and the store itself has a romantic, elegant and stylish persona about it. I tried to capture that feeling with these posters I designed to hang on the walls of the shop. My approach was to grasp as much of the atmosphere that Mercatini already possessed and put it into a classic frame.

I believe the end piece gives the feel that both the client and I were after. I am in love with the Mercatini DLE, as is my client. It delivers the romantic feel of the Mercatini store and products, while also giving the staff a place to write information such as quotes and fabric codes.

Paste Up

For this project I employed a rebellious tactic to promote good values and push the boundaries of traditional advertising territory. The posters were strong quotes taken from very influential members of the international design community, referencing the enormous influence design and advertising has on everyone. With the posters, I hoped to encourage designers to include ethics in their work practice. I placed these posters in design-orientated environments around Auckland city in the hope of attracting the attention of my target audience.

Everything we do affects society

This publication was created with the intention to inspire designers to take the moral high ground in design by working with sustainable clients and influencing positive change within the global issues of today. I believe designers have the power to be strongly influential and if designers were to lead positive change we could make a difference. The publication is split into three sections; green design, ethical advertising and changing the status quo.

Green design is about confronting methods of sustainability within the designer’s environment and creating client awareness of these practices. Ethical advertising is a map to help designers choose what they design and for whom they design as well as suggesting that the designer devotes some of their time to global causes. Changing the status quo is a section on how we can do the above and examples of designers that have taken the first steps towards this goal.

This was a creative brief where I was to create a set of postcards that were inspiring to the everyday person. I chose to render the images on the postcard by hand to give them a personal touch.

Foley and Houghton

Foley and Houghton are an agricultural company for whom I created photography and typography. Being a designer of today, I want to push the boundaries of design and step out of the norm but also keep the professional elements that make designers desired in the business world.
